Has performed laboratory and field work to study fundamental aspects of mechanics of sediment transport and turbulence on flows with rough boundaries.Has employed laser and acoustic instrumentation such has LDA (Laser Doppler Anemommetry), PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry), ADV (Acoustic Doppler Anemometry) and Ultrasound Velocimetry. Has coordinated efforts to build a PIV-LIF system and bedload measuring instrumentation
In what concerns numerical modelling, has workedon solutions of his conceptual models with applications to river flows in general, including dam-break flows, and tsunami propagation overland. For that matter he has initiated action STAV (Strong Transients in Alluvial Valleys) as the context for code producing. Has published about 130 scientific papers, communications and book chapters, including 30 papers in refereed journals. Has coordinated 3 national and 2 international projects. Supervised 2 PhD thesis and is currently supervising 6 PhD programmes. Is associate editor of two international journals.
