I work on the integration of mobility chains and networks, particularly, on real-time integration. Integration entails streamlining transport services and agents at different levels, including technology, information, contracts or responsibility.
In order to better understand integration, I develop simulation models, largely based on agent technology, of transport operations and processes. In addition, I investigate successful business models and transport policy options. Recently, I add security to my topics of interest.
I have been involved in over 20 EU and National research projects. Over the recent years, I supervised over 15 PhD Student or MSc Students, both at IST and other Universities. In addition, I am involved on several educational programmes. Check my website for further details.
I am graduated in Civil Engineering of University of Oporto in 2001, completed an MSc in Transport Infrastructure from the same faculty in 2005, and completed a PhD in Transportation from the IST in 2010.
